I think it's one of the most compelling movies ever made.  So much so that I'm startled to find that anyone thinks it's plodding, let alone that there is even agreement on the matter.

I live in San Jose, California, and couldn't find this opening anywhere near me.  I probably would've made the trip to San Francisco if it had played there, but I don't think it did.  I've wanted to see this since I first read raves about the script.  YOU CAN COUNT ON ME was my favorite movie of its year, so I

1 is ludicrous.  3 is really good; 4 is fine with a few exceptional moments.

I thought he was terrific as Gordon, and there were some nice layers in his characterization.  Ledger playing Joker as Hannibal Lecter was terrific and enormously entertaining, but I think Oldman's performance (especially considering his marginal screen time) was arguably the best in the film.

Oh, man.  I didn't even know he was still alive.  This guy's playing was amazing.  Robbie Robertson probably won't stop weeping for a week.

I'd say the movie's about a C+. Handsomely made, and that's about it. The kid playing the lead is of very little interest, and the plot in retrospect has a through line, but as I watched it, it felt meandering and unfocused. The silent film stuff was of interest but came after way too many minutes of tedium. Sasha did

It's so weird to have that song among the many self-esteem music videos played at the gym.  Clearly, " — but you won't do the same" should be telling him something, and he probably needn't write a song about it.

Part of the point is that Cusak's character wasn't cool, but stunted.

Five members of classic era… I'm in trouble, because I think "classic era" starts with WILD…. So Danny Federici, Roy Bittan, Bruce, Garry Talent, Clarence Clemmons?

Ditto.  I saw the first one and thought that it was pretty bad and pretty dim-witted.

Have you seen the movie, Erin Brockovich?  He's a pretty nifty guy in that one.

Each branch of the San Jose library system has about four copies of this movie.  I've checked it out probably at least a dozen times and still haven't watched it.  No idea why on either.

I've only seen the first three seasons, but I always thought the supporting cast was really bad.  Not just the characters, but the actors as well.  This was one of those shows that really lives and dies based on the central conceit and one terrific actor.

Ha — yeah… but it was one of those moments where, once again, I felt like I just must not be a "normal" guy.

Yeah — the context was that it was one of the few movies we both agreed was really good, and I was so surprised he liked a good movie that I asked him what he liked about it.

Oh — "curvy"!

Can't believe I forgot THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO. Maybe the most necessary unhappy ending ever.

Is "strait" some new thing like "boi"?

A guy I worked with talked to me about how hot that scene was, and I kinda broke it down for him.  He told me weeks later that he'd watched it again and I'd ruined it for him.  I was not secretly glad.
