@ CC Baxter

My boss offers kudzu.

It's also potentially dishonest.

Check IN THE COMPANY OF MEN, NURSE BETTY, or even ERIN BROCKOVICH, for heaven's sake!

Bale was far and away better in THE PRESTIGE, yes. Maybe his best work to date, though I'd want to look at LITTLE WOMEN again to be sure.

For what it's worth, he's been pretty clear that he's most interested in making big entertainment. THE PRESTIGE probably seems a "small" film to him these days.

@ Todd VanDerWerff

MEMENTO is better than almost anything anyone else has ever done, but otherwise, as of now, I agree with you. Though I think only ZODIAC and THE SOCIAL NETWORK are great movies. FIGHT CLUB was a beautifully directed chunk of crap, SEVEN was ludicrous, and I hope to say Nolan would never shoot a script as bad as

It's a platform game some folks designed based on his drawings and such. It's called "Hi, How Are You," natch. It's like a psychedlic Frogger. There's a lite version (or used to be). Fun stuff.

There's a general reluctance toward the genre, but I'd say that's largely because it honestly doesn't have the depth (or perceived depth) of other major pictures of any given year. There really haven't been many good or great comic book movies, I don't think. SPIDER-MAN 2 and X-MEN 2 were awfully good, UNBREAKABLE

Except that the performances in MEMENTO are across-the-board terrific. Also, Nolan got fantastic performances from Hillary Swank, late-period Al Pacino, and maybe a career-best from Bale in THE PRESTIGE. Gary Oldman is terrific in the Batman movies, and there was Heath Ledger's Joker, as well. Heck, even Robin

Mike Leigh's screenwriter nomination(s)
I still don't understand how he gets screenplay nominations. My understanding of how he makes his films is that he has a basic story in mind, but the actors improvise their dialogue and the team shapes the scenes and that becomes the movie. It makes no sense. It seems that,

Steve Martin on "How to Be a Millionaire" :

I don't know if it would be sadder if that did or didn't actually happen.

Thanks! I saw F FOR FAKE when it made it to DVD and enjoyed it.
