'Band' in quotes? Really? What fact, precisely, are you questioning here? He is indeed in a band that has been active for decades, and you admit to being entirely unfamiliar with their music, so you can't be questioning the musicianship.

Go listen to "The Greatest Story Every Told" and get back to me. It's better than every R.E.M. album, pretty easily.

I had both Tyler The Creator and Tegan and Sara on my mp3 player at the same time, before this shit went down, so I assure you there is some small crossover between their audiences. That said, I don't know of anyone else who likes both of them, so I'm probably the exception.
