Oh, THAT old gag!
I love love love when some one fires their gun at the threat/hero until the gun is empty, and then they throw the empty gun at the threat/hero. I love it, jeez I love it, because it's such an empty futile gesture and it's so understandable a human impulse. I've seen empty guns thrown at Superman,

Whaaat?
No Terry Jacks' "Seasons In The Sun"?

See above - I can't believe they agreed to do it. Can they really be that stupid? Yes. Of course they can. Of course, when Who Wants to be a Millionaire had the week of rock musicians playing for charity they were, sadly, pretty dumb.

What I don't get is
Why did those singers (most of whom I'm totally unfamiliar with) agree to do a project which they MUST have known would show their shortcomings so badly???? I'm sure they're good at what they do, but dear god, didn't any of them realize what singing classic Broadway music would entail? ESPECIALLY

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't feel sorry for him - I think he's known for being exactly what he wants to be.

A Dirty Shame
Totally agree about A Dirty Shame - it's my favorite movie of his. And it IS a shame it was rated NC-17. It played one independent cinema here, for ONE WEEK. I think it's funny, actually very positive, and there are special effects. And the music is AWESOME!

Joan Crawford had become pretty frightening looking by this time. A few years later she saw a newspaper photo of herself and Rosalind Russell in which both of them looked pretty terrible and she retired from the public eye for the most part.

Yeah…dire…
I really disliked Strait-Jacket the first time I saw it, but what the heck, it's awesome. Big Joan Crawford fan, and not in the "Oh she's terrible, I LOVE her!" way.

Anyone else think Helen Mirren looked like Barbra Streisand the first time they saw it?

There, castle.

The idea that there's no direct physical connection between them is fascinating, never occured to me. Now I have something to think about today.

Yeah - her cover of Pancho and Lefty is paired with her cover of Making Believe on Luxury Liner - I used to lift the needle and play that pair over and over and over.

Once again
I am ahead of the curve. Did I shave my head and grow a goatee in 1990? I did! Did I develop a belly over the last year? You tell me! Yes, I did!

Yeah I agree. I'm really interested to see what he makes of it.

No I can't see that it originated with Mildred Pierce - the desire to permanently cut off the oxygen supply of someone who's being inhumanly cruel to you verbally is probably hardwired. You just want to strangle them so they can never. Speak. Again.

All three of the forties Cain adaptations are really good but I have to say I prefer the books. I REALLY prefer "Mildred Pierce" the novel - there's no way they could have brought THAT Mildred Pierce character to the screen then.

Yeah I have to agree. I was really looking forward to "Far From Heaven" but was kind of vaguely disappointed, and couldn't really put my finger on why. Then I rented "All That Heaven Allows" - OOOOOOOH. Ok, that's why. I mean I don't hate "Far From Heaven", but it's just not…right. "ATHA" is one of my favorite

You probably know but if you liked "Far From Heaven" you should really check out "All That Heaven Allows" too

Movieline
God I'd forgotten about this movie, but now I remember reading about it in Movieline's "Bad Movies We Love" many many years ago, as well as other reviews. I just…may…have…to…see it now

Short Bus
That vibrating panties gag was used in Short Bus - right down to the remote being mistaken for a tv remote
