    I wonder if the Bates/Anna marriage is going to prove useful while he's on trial:  at the time wives couldn't be compelled (or maybe weren't allowed) to testify against their husbands.  I also wonder if O'Brien will be called to testify—maybe she'll redeem herself a little further on the stand, though I can't remember
