There's a couple of (amateur) reviews of this already on line. And they make it sound pretty dumb.

I haven't seen Magic Mike, yet. If it works for the movie, I'm fine with it. But back to the vulgarity-supplementing-wit thing: Anybody with a very basic slang vocabulary can write comedy like that. It's been a mainstay in the Apatow/Rogen era. And it always feels insecure and show-offy. At least find ways to be

Meh. We'll see how this turns out. I'm kinda tired of comedy writing that just overloads on the "outrageousness" of vulgar dialogue as a supplement for wit. OMG, this time they're saying bad words AND they're girls. Nobody is shocked by it, so who cares?

DIE HARD 2 gets a lot of overpraise because Siskel and Ebert somehow thought it was better than the original. It loses its grip on the McClane character, turning him into Rambo, instead of the everyman concept that actually gave the first movie its hook. It's also uninvolving and unnecessarily sadistic. Only slickness

She's the most boring really talented pop star around. Right above Timberlake.

Writers are often taught to only write what they know. But it's a stupid thing to insist upon. Great writers are explorers, and are able to empathize with lifestyles that seem alien to their own, and find a common humanity in that. Or just use the gift of imagination.

I question that, too, actually. I suspect Dunham is a write-what-you-know kind of writer. This is what she knows, and she's very good at it. A choice was made in casting this not to break out of that comfort zone. If that's the case, I can't fault her for not having much experience with people outside of her class and

Have you been to Brooklyn? In 2013? It ain't like this.

"There are plenty of criticisms of Girls I agree with. The show is too white. It’s too relentlessly upper-class. It sometimes has difficulty indicating that the things its characters do are meant to be vaguely horrifying…"

It was degrading and bad sex, but not BAD sex. Calling it rape is trivializing rape, which is a dangerous thing.

I agree with you on all points, though the naivety of everything often works in its benefit. There's a lot of deliberate shock value on Girls. You can even sense it in a lot of the dialogue. It's partly realistic, but largely Dunham's exhibitionism/narcissism. It's one of the more annoying things about the show.

You're dismayed, but this debate is exactly what Dunham and co. wanted to happen. For how often and unwarrantedly "genius" is thrown at the show, this interaction and the respose to it (including the way seeing a cumshot on television overshadows everything) was truly a brilliant (and calculated) move. We're all

South Park has had cumshots.

I agree with this. Girls have no problem getting laid, except for extreme exceptions. Though Dunham did break credibility pairing herself with Donald Glover.

Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is actually really good. It's not at the height of Mars Attacks!, but is imaginative and anarchic.

You're right. This article is predictable, kowtowing, and (like most non-reviews on this site) pointless. There has been a marginal loss of direction with some recent Burton films, but never for the reasons people point out (you forgot to mention the accusation that he only does remakes, as if his affinity for known

Show them the De Palma film. It's an absolute masterpiece.
