Carnivale was fucking great; it had some problems, but I remember that show very fondly and was pretty down when it got axed.

agree to disagree; there are plenty of moments played purely for laughs ..

it's an absolutely ridiculous film, and Green showed a lot of guts in taking his absurd (and often gross) humour to its logical conclusion ..

.

god, I found This is the End completely insufferable and forgettable .. glad you liked it though!

yeah, A Serious Man was a bit of an oversight; funnier than Burn After Reading and right alongside O Brother, although very different humour ..

not sure how A Serious Man doesn't make the list; I found it far funnier than Burn After Reading …

let us gingerly touch our tips ..

blow up the Mosque!

I told you. I don't like sour stuff!

yeah, nah - not 'so' - no though, yes.

Of course; you're right - but having to *read* them to my daughter is painful, as they are just so flat and oddly lifeless after the initial premise has been laid out..

Bigger Question;
Did Vivian ever get her Bush Baby?

I haven't read any of his adult-themed work; I have no reason to doubt you that it's good. But I was genuinely surprised at how lazy some of his well-loved kids books read …

yes CS Lewis is pretty dire too - at the risk of repeating myself, I found Wind in the Willows to be really lovingly written; I kind of knew the story and had seen various television adaptations, but Kenneth Grahame's writing is whimsical enough to grab a child's imagination and nuanced enough to make it readable for

you're right; that satellite scene got a good fright out of me, it was well shot and the sound was great as you point out ..

Unpopular Opinion:

I've also found Inside Out provides diminishing returns… I didn't find Riley to be bratty at all, and to be honest I struggle to identify just what it is that doesn't quite work for me. I think the Joy/Sadness pairing is a bit flat as far as comedic duos go.

Apart from the incongruous army of dogs, I agree. those dogs are a bit odd tonally, but the rest of the film is so fucking great that it barely matters.

mark me down as another who puts Ratatoullie top of the Pixar tree.
