I had a similar experience as a child; it was one of my Dad's (who first watched it under the influence of LSD, like a lot of hippie-types apparently did) favourite films and I saw 2001 regularly throughout my childhood at both the cinema and on VHS. I found it fascinating and it was an experience I would reflect on

Jimmy Carr is a douche, but he is a funny douche, and responsible for one of the funniest/most inappropriate gags I've heard in the past few years - I agree with what you're saying though, today's comedian's (well, the ones you mentioned, and more) are under the misapprehension that they don't *actually* need to be

that doesn't bother me, but the fact that she's so relentlessly hacky really really does.

A draught in the fall when the house is hot is a magic carpet for bacteria …

Yes.
Acoustic & Electric guitars for Byrne, guitar and synth for Jerry Harrison, and projector screen backdrops showing body parts and random words (Pig/Facelift/Star Wars).

I wanna Talking Heads Stop Making Sense lego set; someone get onto that. thanks.

One of Lynch's best - has some subtle Lynchian moments, too - also, the soundtrack is lovely

Tunnel of Love is a wonderful song, easily Dire Straits high point in my eyes - similarly, I reckon Making Movies stands head and shoulders above the rest of their albums ..

Any time Hudsucker is raised on AV I feel compelled to mention the wonderful balcony scene where Amy mentions the people below looking 'like ants' from their vantage point, and Norville spinning her awkward, offhand comment into a wonderful rumination on reincarnation, ending on a truly awful pun: "can I call you

the heck you mean?

Meat on Meat eh?
ok, Kowalski ..

ha, damn I posted that elsewhere under this article before reading all of the comments - it really is hilarious, and yes the impersonation is spot-on (and we've all heard those stories a million times!)

I had the pleasure of seeing KV live a couple of months ago here in Melbourne, and he was exactly as I expected; no frills, low on the chit-chat, just totally focused on playing his guitar - it was great.

Does Bombino 'the Hendrix of the Desert' feature in this??

Oh Smeg.
What the smeggin' smeg's he smeggin' well done now?

I'll be the lone person backing Margaret Cho up on this one; the song is novelty shite, I didn't like it back then and I don't like it now.
I knew precisely one guy who used to like it, and he had the worst taste in music of all time.
Also, Cho is into Split Enz, and they have some goddamn wonderful songs.

It could have been done so much better; what's frustrating is that such a clean premise has been badly blown.

Yeah personally I just didn't like where the writers took the show at all and I see Last Man On Earth as a bit of a blown opportunity..
It was a simple, great premise that was mishandled way too early ..
I would happily have watched Phil playing out a Wall-E type scenario (solo, with little-to-no-dialogue) for weeks;

Mr Hulot's Holiday is just about the most relaxing film I've ever had the pleasure of watching, it's wonderful …
