well then I love *you*
seriously, been on a big Jonathan Richman kick of late, he's amazing - not every song is a winner, but when he gets it right (which is often enough for me), he touches me like few have ..

Try Jonathan Richman, waaaaay more fun than Kanye, and he's got ya covered for Picasso, Van Gogh and Vermeer …

Originally, Pablo shot first

wow, that was possibly the longest comment I've ever read on AVC!

I like the Stones a lot, but I'm not their biggest fan by any stretch - I also like St Vincent quite a bit, loved most of the last album … but Annie Clark's vocals, which are kinda sterile most the time (except on that gorgeous track ummm Prince Johnny and a couple of others which seem to be more in her wheelhouse)

Yeah you're bang on with regards to Watts/Wyman's rhythmic contributions to the original - Annie Clark's version is constipated by comparison.
I'm not sure if Corbin Reiff's particularly familiar with the original version or not, but the Stones version is plenty funky.
Also, if St. Vincent wants to imbue a song with the

yeah I've always liked the original, and Jagger's vocal performance pisses all over this - I quite like St Vincent, but this is pretty yuck .. '

That'll work fine.

True Stories the film was ahead of it's time, I have no doubt about that - people didn't know what to make of it when it came out ..

That's all well and good - I'll stick with the direct quote though unless you can dig up something more specific ..

worse than underrated, it often gets pissed all over - it's a really solid album though, I agree (and I'm glad Noel Murray gave some props to Little Creatures in his article, too) - post Eno Talking Heads gradually lost their edge more and more, but imo that dulled edge was compensated for with a certain elegance and

I reckon that's as close as Byrne will ever get to a 'sex' song (unless he's talking about sex in more abstract, biological terms, that is) ..

The Name of This Band is Talking Heads version of "Love Goes to Building on Fire" is way, way more passionate and evocative than the Single that they released, imo… Byrne was pretty dismissive about the single when it released, basically writing it off as a failed experiment.

live version for me, too.

I've not heard Byrne say this at all, and I know my Talking Heads.
Here's a direct quote on Byrne's 'Heaven' lyrics from the man himself:

Personally I think just about every live performance on Stop Making Sense is preferable to the album versions, save for the Remain in Light tracks (Once In A Lifetime and Crosseyed and Painless).
Found a Job is a draw, as is Thankyou For Sending Me An Angel (loooove both versions so much).

Agree with you on this one; Mabry/Holt's backing vocals are sublime and elevate the song to a whole new plane - I like both versions well enough, but definitely prefer the SMS version for those amazing vocals.

Uh Oh Love Comes To Town (which is a great fucking song) is almost a warning about the perils of love's distractions (albeit tongue in cheek) rather than a genuine celebration of love.

yesyesyesyes - definitely their career high point in my eyes, too.

Definitely - this article was a little over-ambitious, a simpler examination of recurring themes as you suggested would be well worth doing right.
