I read them a long time ago so I don't remember if it was properly explained, but I recall that it was an interesting moment (at least much more interesting than what happened in this episode with Bill)

I remember in the books there was a moment when she could hear Eric's thoughts but it only lasted for half a second. I think it was never explained how that could happen (maybe her telepathy is very strong?)
But yeah in the show it made no sense

Did anyone notice that the last shot of Eric in Fangtasia was actually re-used from season 3?
