The craziness was Clifford Irving's Hughes diary fraud blowing up at the same time that Welles' was putting together a documentary about a great art forger where Irving appears as a journalist who revelas the fraud. Irving being a fraud himself was not part of the original plan.

Sarah Millican's Chatterbox and Milton Jones' Lion Whisperer mentioned up thread were both awesome. And Reginald D. Hunter's DVD was good, if a bit uneven. I guess Hunter is technically American, but his whole career seems to be based in the UK.

All North Americans by design? Or were there just no strong UK/Australia/etc. contenders this year?

I was really hoping for over the top self-referential camp, but 20 minutes in it was all sincere if trite sentimentality and terribly flaccid production numbers so we switched off.

Aw, cute, it thinks it's people!

So you've never heard of the Goons then?

One vaguely triumphant moment for me as a bookseller was correctly identifying that a customer wanted Cold Mountain when they asked for "that blue book about the Civil War."

We had to ditch the book test because it was deemed "prejudicial" against fuckers who never read. There may even have been a lawsuit brought in some trog state, I can't remember now.

Maybe the stupid idea is this:

That's been my problem with Professor Blastoff (the one she co-hosts) so far: it's mostly comedians competing with each other, to the detriment of what was a pretty neat idea for a show.

Get it from Shout! Factory directly
If you buy this set directly from Shout! Factory you also get a free bonus disc of more Kovacs material.

Frankie Boyle
Is there where I link to Frankie Boyle's "what if Knight Rider was actually about a schizophrenic in a stolen car" sketch? Okay then:

I forgot this was coming
Five years later or whatever it's been, my brain still hasn't accepted that Gray is dead. Every time I see him in something or his name comes up I get a nasty little lurch, because I've blotted out the fact that he's gone. I'm torn between really wanting to see this, and at the same time not

Especially now that the show is finally getting a DVD release.

Wow, really? The younger man's obsession with transsexuals is a pretty damn key component of the book.

*Psst: Ibsen wasn't Danish.*

A good way to pick up chicks who like Amanda Palmer is to say you'd totally go Gai for them.

Oshii was NOT brought in to direct Beautiful Dreamer
He worked extensively on the TV show and directed the first Urusei Yatsura movie as well.

"1938's Room Service has its good qualities"
Wow, I strongly disagree. Room Service is their absolute worst film. Not a laugh in it, and it wasn't written for them. It's my vote for "Where Not to Start" because it's so unrepresentative.

If you guys think this is pedantic, you should see how apeshit the Kleenex fans (or "snotties" as they like to be called) get when you don't use their preferred term ("single use Kleenex brand facial tissue unit").
