I was a bit surprised that Bond's plan of whisking M to a remote location so that he could take on an army of bad guys with a shotgun, the result of which was M's painful death, should be rewarded by welcoming him back with open arms so he can get on with his old job.

The Shining was my first scary read as well. For some reason it was the bit when The Overlook telepathically shouts at Dick Hallorann to try and keep him from coming back to help the kid. I think maybe it called him the n word. Which is not cool, hotel, not cool.

Used to love The Ferguson Theory when I was a wee man. Not sure if you can get it any more though. And I sure as hell ain't opening another tab and googling for it. What is this? The dark ages?
