'The Collected iPhone-In-A-Bathroom-Mirror Photos Of Tom Waits' is a book I would buy in a heartbeat, regardless of cost.

Wait, what? I always read the Heather Graham character as a parody of what the political right thought the political left were like. That what they were actually making fun of was the right's 'if you don't want to bomb Iraq you must love Saddam Hussein' thing?

Eh. I'll take 'The Final Cut' over the two that followed it - neither of which is horrible, but neither of which is great.
So, I guess the only difference between the Bad Seeds & Grinderman now is Thomas Wydler?

Yeah, we know here that she came third. We just don't know for a couple of episodes (I forget how many) that GOB follows through with his 'third place' plan…

I also find that the made-up nature of Rita's specific illness helps. Like, if they'd specifically identified her developmental problem it would've been a bit more touchy, I think. But leaving it just as 'Mentally Retarded Female' keeps it firmly in satiric/cartoony territory for me.

Additional thought - ever since I first heard about this US version, I've been wondering how well it can translate. The British one, aside from its very British nature, makes sense in a parliamentary system. I would think that the move to the presidential/congressional system would make things a lot muddier.

I liked that element of it - & the actor's Charles impersonation-by-another-name is wonderful - but I just never believed that anyone cared what the king thought. Seriously, he's a ceremonial figurehead - people are more interested in who he's sleeping with than with his ludicrous ideas.

It's mainly something I know because I'm Australian, and it was while they were touring here that Clayton & Campbell had their big breakup & he missed a show in Sydney because he went out on a bender in response. It was pretty big news here at the time - and I'd seen them just a week earlier in Brisbane. And 'Zooropa'…
