A theory undermined only slightly by the fact that they didn't break up until several months after the song came out, right?

I'm very glad 'Babyface' - one of the great underappreciated U2 songs - made this list. It's so gorgeous & seductive, but ends up feeling hollow.

Haven't bothered with Panic of Looking, in part because whatever virtues Drums Between the Bells had were thoroughly washed out by the godawful poems recited over the top. The instrumental version of the album (in the deluxe edition) is much more palatable, but it's still not exactly the Eno I ever put on when I feel…

Yes, 'No Pussyfooting' is pretty great. Doesn't sound much like this, but it's great. I like the 1/2 speed version even better.

Yes & no. I mean, I see where you're coming from (even if you engage in very non-ambient hostility) - it's more like 'Ambient 2' than anything else with 'ambient' in its title that he's released.

My wife often tells the story of the time she & her high-school boyfriend went to some shitty cover-band concert in the late '90s. They did 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door', at which point he turned to her & said 'these guys are so unoriginal! why are they stealing this Guns & Roses song?'

I'm non-violent by nature, but every time I see that cover for Uno!, I think to myself 'Well, there's a very punchable face'.

Got this yesterday, and have listened to it once (as I walked to work, and then at work). Probably it's closest in sound to some of his later ambient stuff - Thursday Afternoon, Neroli, the track Ikebukuro (off The Shutov Assembly) than his earlier ambient pieces (Discreet Music etc). It's certainly - for the most…

I only realised recently that the WIGGUM FOREVER! BARNEY NEVER! bit is also a direct Beatles reference. They mention that basically the exact thing happened after the fired Pete Best & brought in Ringo.
