I did bring up Paul, btw, but the question I asked - I forget the exact phrasing now, but it was something to do with whether or not Pegg & Frost comedy-geeked out working with him - didn't result in much more than a comment about how they were nice boys.

Even when I'm not doing Random Roles, I still try to get at least a little random with the roles…

Yeah, but as someone whose home looks a heck of a lot like that of the Hecks, I'm guessing Brick's mindset would be, "Why borrow a book for two weeks at a time when I can own it forever?"

By "slight," I was referring to the topics rather than the execution of the discussions themselves, which were awesome.

A combination of being too late when I wrote it and too late in my life to start caring about baseball. But I've fixed it.

From 1992:

I would never miss a chance to ask anyone about my favorite MST3K episode.

It was free, but having gone to a plethora of these things, I still almost never see them so full as to have to turn away anyone, let alone 200 people.

I'm mystified, too. I saw it and loved it. And, honestly, I'm surprised it didn't do better, because at the advance screening here in Virginia Beach, they literally turned away about 200 people who'd wanted to see it. Granted, maybe people are more partial to it 'round these parts 'cause John Carter's one of us, but

You know, I actually had my list in hand and ready to roll just in case he'd suddenly said, "Sure, let's do this thing." All three of those were on it.

You know a guy's been around the block a few times when he tells you a story that A) revolves around attending the taping of a radio show, and B) the special guest star on that radio show was Al Jolson. ("Jolson did one song on the show, then when the show was over, he came back out and did an hour for the audience!")

Went to the Williamsburg Film Festival here in Virginia and had drinks with Richard Erdman, who plays Leonard on Community…but, then, you may have already seen the photographic evidence of that on Twitter. What a hilarious guy. He admits freely that he has no idea what the show's about. He just does his line, and he's

Yeah, I admit, I really should've asked about that, but I honestly had no idea that anyone else dug that miniseries as much as I did. Somewhere around here I still have the promotional hotel room key they sent to all of the TV critics in conjunction with the show's debut.

Hey, hey, either we're all dickfaces or none of us are. No playing favorites.

The response to our firstie above holds true for Stolen Summer as well.

Not guilty: it was in the mix when I hit the wall, had to wrap up, and told him to pick one last role from the last five on my list, but no anecdote leapt immediately to mind.

It is an unabashed brag, but to clarify, it was one of those laughs you see him give onscreen, it was very real, and I will play back the memory of it for the rest of my life.

I kept it together, if only so I could get this taken at the end of the conversation:

At the end of the interview, I said, "I know you wanted to stay on topic today, but we've got this feature called Random Roles, and I think you might enjoy doing it. Also, I'm not afraid to go as far back as 'The Pawnbroker,'" which was his very first film (he's not even credited for his role). At this, he burst out

I will accept that compliment in the spirit in which it is intended.
