Standalones tend to stick in the mind more easily just because they are more accessible rewatches. In DS9, it's a lot harder to rewatch an awesome episode with tons of arc significance - like The Changing Face of Evil or By Inferno's Light - than it is to just watch Duet or The Visitor again.

Maybe by the 24th century, a little jazz chord substitution has filtered into classical interpretations. Which would be awesome.
