I agree that Adore would be a good option for this list. I like Adore a lot (I'm a huge SP fans) but it's definitely a departure from Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.

Macguffin is just a word that gets thrown around a lot more than it should. It's something that is all too important in recent films, when Macguffins in films of the noir era were all but forgotten by the time the movie was over. The Macguffin usually drove the first half of the film, and then plot and character…
It could even be like the real-world insectoid larvae… a billion eggs are laid but only a few ever reach mature adulthood. At any rate, we don't know and that not knowing makes it fun to dissect and question.

…use your "breast" judgment. Ba dum ching!
I totally didn't intend to go on and on… Sorry about that, AV Clubbers. Feel free to skewer my non-incidental, non-professional semi-review though.
My thoughts on District 9
There's a lot to like, but there's almost an equal amount to dislike as well. Is this a detriment to the film or is it still interesting enough to check out? I'll attempt to answer that question. (Warning, spoilers abound!)
The main character in D9 reminds me a lot of the main character in Dead Alive. He seems to be that level of Peter Jackson-ish protagonist… you know, the put-upon bureaucrat?
Put me in the "Love" column for Starship Troopers. I see the parallels in hindsight as well, but probably wouldn't have thought to bring them up in total comparison to District 9, so I was therefore somewhat surprised to hear it on the podcast. They ARE completely tonally different, as you so eloquently pointed out.
It doesn't…
…really bother me that it's gone, because it hasn't been all that good the past few seasons, but it was a great show when it first aired. Also, I enjoy Thomas Lennon in the movies he's been in. He's pretty hilarious in enjoyable films like I Love You, Man and the best part of horrible Zac Efron vehicles…
Season 1 - some great comedy and funny stories
Season 2 - solid, but it's starting to wear out
Season 3 - there's a reason it was canceled
Season 4 - ooh, it's back and it's gonna be good! (but it's not)
Season 5 - who would finance this crap?
Season 6 - ok, it's not so bad… it's not great, but it's not bad
Season 7 - dear…
This is worse than the time I had a job as Guy Pearce's jaw.
I still defend the first season of Family Guy, which while crudely drawn and rough around the edges, has well-developed (if somewhat aped from other shows) characters, decent writing, and draws humor from the PLOTS, not from randomness. The episode where Peter crashes into the television satellite and Meg takes the…
He had to be a douche bag a la approximately 3/4ths of the commentors on this site.
My gf has a fantasy of a three-way with Jon Hamm. I'm not afraid to admit that I'd love to be in the middle of that.
You know me too well apparently.
*THE* definitive 80s montage scene imo.
I quote myself: "That part was hilarious." Hence, fuck *you* good sir.
This show will would be best with…
…a vagina cam. Make it happen, Fox.
I watched Bueller on friday afternoon after hearing about Hughes' death and I agree wholeheartedly. There's some timeless, classic comedy and some great lines in there. Love this exchange:
Yeah, it's nice to see the African American community defended by a short, bald, impossibly white Jewish man in his mid-30s. If not Nabin, then who?
