They also dealt with in a scene with Nate dreaming about the pregnancies his various girlfriends had aborted lecturing him. Which seems pretty in character for Nate, all around. Narcissistic like that, but kinda guilty about it.

I thought the slow winding down worked. For one, it lets the downer nature of the ending settle in. Yeah, Frodo saved the world and got pulled off by giant eagles, but he's pretty much never going to be happy again because of what the Ring did to him.
