It's a damn fine romance.

Come on, nobody likes Year One.

I found Identity funnier than Adaptation.

I wasn't in love with it either, but I liked The World's End even less.

I think it's more that The AV Club doesn't give a shit about American studio comedy.

World's Greatest Dad really surprised me. Great movie, good comedy.

Objectively, I don't think any country except the US cared for Napoleon Dynamite.

Intention plays a huge role, in fact it's the very first thing Wikipedia mentions:
"In a modern sense, comedy (from the Greek: κωμῳδία, kōmōidía) refers to any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous or to amuse by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, television, film and stand-up comedy."
Problem is,

I'm still trying to guess who half of these people are.

THE A.V. CLUB

Oh, believe me, I already knew what article it would be before I clicked on the link. Heck, I'm not even a fan of WKRP and I still found a lot of stupid things in that discussion to be upset about.

The only solution is to start a petition to colorize Some Like It Hot. It's what Marilyn wanted!

My husband laughed for the bulk of In Bruges, I don't find Caddyshack funny. It's way too subjective to use as the only signifier if something's a comedy.

The comedic editing is so on point in that movie.

"Character study with a few yucks" is how I would describe Young Adult. Though to be fair, a lot of comedies can be described that way.

Good to know, I was thinking about getting that Mary Tyler Moore book.

It's like the Emmys every year. Only half-hour movies should be considered comedies!
But yes, there are a lot of dramedies up there. And even straight dramas like Force Majeure.

I mean, you've got a point with Frances HA and several other titles, but Superbad is one of the few titles up there that is a pure comedy, nothing else. Finding it funny is subjective, classifying it as a comedy is not.

Come on, you're better than this comment. You might not find it funny, but what else is Superbad aspiring to be?

Several people mentioned The Other Guys here, you're far from the only one. And yes, I would put it above a lot of the movies up there.
