Hey…I just got back into metal a few years ago after taking the nu-metal era off. Initially I didn't like the cookie monster vocals, but eventually I came to appreciate them as making the overall genre more brutal and aggressive.

That makes sense. I do have a hard time remembering why I liked Death Magnetic, but I remember liking it because it was unexpectedly metal.
I'd say South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, then Christ Illusion. The live albums are great but I think the newer songs on CI are worth hearing before reviewing the live stuff on Decade of Aggression.

Ok, I loved Christ Illusion. Even after 3 years and countless listens, there are moments on that album (Final Six, Jihad, Eyes, Skeleton Christ) that have me headbanging and throwing up the devil horns during my morning commute, making me a danger to everyone around me as I swerve around the road.
