Actually, I thought the cold open was a flashback to Jesse as a kid. Figured at some point in the episode he would launch into a monologue about this pet tarantula he found in the desert this one time, and how his parents' refusal to accept it started him down the road to a life of crime.

I'm sorry, as a full-grown man I have to say Dustin Hoffman is the shit in 'Hook.'

I don't remember that much about the first season, and the show has definitely gotten way, way less joke-driven over time. (Maybe too much so.) But other than being a show by a New York comedian who is playing a New York comedian with the same name, it has never resembled 'Seinfeld.' 'Louie' is decidedly not a sitcom.

Now to force Veena Sud to walk around for the rest of her life with "cancelled" permanently tattooed on her forehead.

This is a good review. I was a little bit disappointed in the absence of big laughs/concrete payoffs in this episode, but I appreciate it a lot more after reading this.

Absolutely with you, @avclub-c02b1e8c39e84057c1a17d0eea9c8bba:disqus, with Phish's bluegrass version of "Gin 'n Juice" the genre of "Self-Consciously Non-Threatening White Guys Doing Incongruous Covers of Explicit Rap Songs" reached its logical conclusion.

Agreed. Consensus seems to be that "Ben Folds Five" and "Whatever and Ever Amen" are borderline classics, and everything after that has been mediocre to embarrassing. (Although I will vouch for about half of "Reinhold Messner.")

Whatever.

Whatever.

I was impressed with this film at SXSW. Probably the best of the 5-6 I saw there. (Doc on the last days of LCD Soundsystem is also recommended.)
