What drives me crazy about this whole thing is that The Daily Show basically just pulled a "but I have black friends"- which is especially funny because they've made fun of that kind of surface tolerance on their show a lot.

I agree with Violet Crumbles. For women, getting a break in comedy is still fucking hard, and even doing open mics and trying to build a reputation as a stand up it's actively hostile to women. Writer's rooms are a notoriously shitty place for women, Daily Show sounds like no exception.

Because it's super "transgressive" to take the things you liked when you were little and destroy them. Because making the things you liked when you were little do violent stuff shows that you're not a kid anymore… even though if you actually weren't a kid anymore you wouldn't be obsessing over childhood at all.
