After a Baseball Project show I thanked him for producing the Feelies' Good Earth album and he was gracious enough to thank me and say that they deserved all the credit for it. Also he was cleared of all charges in the air rage incident.

If I can get my Iowa friends to show up and do the work for beer & burgers but I can't get my fancy-pants big city friends to show for anything but cash, it doesn't seem icky on my part.

A friend who is a professional singer/bandleader feels quite strongly about not working for free but I've only heard him on about this in relation to club owners and not in the case of sitting in with another musician. I know he pays his band but I don't know if he pays the guest vocalists who occasionally show up.
