I don't understand people who like the CG-wash effects of the new Total Recall and its ilk over the perfect and real rubber, silicone, pulls, levies and miniatures of the original. The fat lady exploding head is one of my favorite effects of all time.

Had awesome luck this weekend, got to see "The Master" at its surprise 70mm screening at the Music Box on Thursday. The performances were great, the imagery and camera movements were nothing short of hypnotic, and I need to see it again, but overall I would not rank it at the top of Anderson's work.

I was lucky enough to be there, too, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. Despite my reservations, I left the theater wanting to see it again, immediately.

The Newsroom fails because cable news is nothing more than shallow entertainment and anyone working in that medium (the characters on the show) is either dumb or in denial if they think they can do any serious work. Maybe if it was based in a newspaper newsroom it would stand a chance.

If you don't spend all your time on /film and reading AVClub newswire it's pretty easy to still be surprised by trailers. I had no clue.
