Yes, it is a fun/interesting reading of the story, to see the first Doctor is already me mastermind manipulator, long before 7 became "time's champion," and is not inconsistent with the irascible, more-clever-than-he-seems and less than perfectly benign portrayal of the first Doctor.

I largely agree about the Pertwee six-parters (I liked Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Planet of the Spiders has some charms), but what I find strange is the three seven-part stories from season seven are all masterpieces.

Yes—I was hoping, contrary to all likelihood, that Mass Appeal would come up. Probably a good Jack Lemmon anecdote in there, and I always liked that movie.

Yes, Fendahl and Fang Rock are excellent—standout stories for that season. Fendahl has a particularly grisly moment [spoiler].
