I am firmly in the 'I don't enjoy procedurals camp' as I prefer longer arcs and a show that requires watching it in order, where characterization and story can build. I greatly prefer shows like Southland and The Good Wife that include individual cases and short-term stories within their serialized elements over the L

I think that Friday Night Lights handled serialization very well. At the other end of the spectrum is Castle, where characterization was sacrificed for the case-of-the-week element, and melodramatic spectacle was substituted for serialized arcs that we as an audience could care about and find interesting.

in the hollywood reporter interview (linked above), michelle ashford says that robert's character won't be back this season, but we will learn what happened between libby and robert in flashback.

i remember being quite surprised when viewing the network tv version of 'the electric horseman' and they left in the dialogue where willie nelson says 'i'm going to go get one of those keno girls who can suck the chrome off a trailerhitch'!
