Yeah, the idea that religion just developed to comfort people in the face of death isn't new or sneaky. It's pretty much the Dawkins/Hitchens argument in a nutshell. It's also wrong. While it's certainly a big part of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition, early religions often don't have a concept of an afterlife.

Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda game. But Wind Waker may be my favorite. I know the sailing gets tedious, but I loved how big it made the world seem and I loves me some "messing about in boats." Plus it had amazing graphics, pirates, a dragon, and in the end it turned out to be a post-apocalyptic sequel to Ocarina.

nakedfoul- that's a fair point, but you could look at the sacrifice this way: Jack didn't get to live a long life. Kate probably did. A great many people believe in heavenly high fives but still consider giving your life for something a tremendous sacrifice.

I had a lot of Lost-related dreams, too.

Kate Did It
Oddly enough, the more I think about it, the more I think Kate's "I've missed you so much" line to Jack is what really sold me on the Alterna-verse. As I said below, I think it indicates she lived a long time off the Island after Ajira left. And she never forgot Jack and his sacrifice, so when she sees him

I think Ben's being outside the Church indicates that he's now immortal and is the new protector of the Island. He can't move on until his replacement comes along.

Yeah, I like that explanation, as well.

Thirded. I've loved your write-ups. You've really expressed a lot of my thoughts about the show and created a great place to discuss/argue/theorize and now mourn the show.

"The End" was LOST in a nutshell
Uneven, corny, frustrating, touching. Y'know, I didn't much like the mystical stuff or the "you're in purgatory!" stuff either. But the reunion scenes were really effecting and poignant, especially Kate's "I've missed you so much" to Jack. That, to me, suggested she lived a long life

Same here, scoop94.

Yeah, it was a beautiful moment and very well done by Emerson.

The Danielle/Ben moments were awesome, especially given their long history on the Island. It could have been groan-inducing in its irony, but instead came off sweet.

Good thoughts
Noel,

That game is, as one of my co-workers put it, "the realization of a childhood dream I didn't even know I had."

Mega Man and Link were the best for me. Samus was difficult because she can't duck to blast goombas. Bill was the best, especially when you get the fire flower. Simon blows.

Agreed. This should have been in place of Ab Aterno. This episode made the Richard flashback pointless.

Of course religious texts are clunky. They were all written by idiots who believe in magic men living in the sky. But they were significantly less dumb than the idiots who continue to believe in magical sky wizards and follow the guidance and laws of ancient desert shepherds.

MiB, like Walt later on, is "special" and has an intuitive understanding of the Island and how it works. It's why he knows how to play Senet instinctively. Why the Woman chose him, not Jacob, to protect the Light Bright Vagina Metaphor.

My thoughts exactly. Enjoy the ride.

I agree, I also think she was a Monster of some sort (maybe not a Smoke Monster), since she knows what happens if you go into The Light. It's a fate worse than death, she says, and she's thankful when MiB kills her. She went in The Light herself, which may also explain her murderousness (though Jacob has a lot of
