To follow Carrie's example of an author who should be right in my wheelhouse but isn't: Michael Ondaatje. If you asked me to sign onto a postmodern metanarrative that deals with postcolonial and diasporic themes, I would do it in a heartbeat. Ondaatje's prose also seems great when taken in the abstract, but when I

I echo being somewhat underwhelmed by Punch Drunk Love — the only enjoyable part was PSH as a phone-sex-scam enforcer, and even that felt a little contrived. On the other hand, I think Eraserhead was actually Lynch's best movie, and is much more interesting to me than the camp pastiche he became known for.

Why are all these mean Internet trans people picking on me? Guys (er, I mean, ladies), I'm a liberal! I voted for Obama! I even posted something to my Facebook page suggesting that gay sex is A-OK! You're supposed to go pick on Republicans and TV shows I already don't like, while straight people use the media they

Did anyone watch Turn last night? I thought it was the best episode yet — probably the first genuinely good episode of the series. The way they shot the sex scene at the end of the episode made it seem actually tender instead of crass, which is something that much better shows have a hard time doing.

There was something very strange about Kiernan Shipka's makeup last night on Mad Men as well, although that was at least intentional.

It's almost as if there should be some kind of notification system to alert you to news about your favourite shows.

Good, they sucked.

They didn't. Fox had a spare channel lying around and decided that if one FX was doing well, why not two?

Heroes.

At least it's less humiliating than Sons of Anarchy

Best passages from this article:

HOW DARE YOU SAY SOMETHING THAT COULD BE INTERPRETED AS INSULTING TO TRUE DETECTIVE, THE BEST TV SHOW TO EVER GRACE OUR COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS? WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, SHOW?

I agree, the sub-headline made me do a big double take. And the article ignores that Drogo rapes Danaerys several times after her wedding night in the book, which just makes the initial quasi-consensual scene make no sense. But hey, logic never stopped Martin from writing awful sex scenes about 13 year olds.

I would have liked a Bun-Bun reference for old time's sake.

I can't wait to watch Stoke City vs. West Brom on the Esquire Network!

This is one of those episodes where the smallness of TV casts really grates. Noah and George don't have a third friend? Dallas doesn't have anyone else to go to the funeral with her besides her ex-boyfriend's daughter? It made for some pretty good interactions, but it still seemed contrived.

Man, the "ME WANT HONEYCOMB" guy has seen better days.

He's no Maddy, that's for sure.

Next thing you know they'll be calling it the National House of Pancakes.

The double-header of Getting On and Treme has been one of the best surprises of the TV year. It probably says something that the only HBO shows I really like any more are the ones that get quietly burned off in December.
