The whole show is a giant dog.
Was the Dirty Dozen not a comedy? Sure, the characters are theives, and murderers and rapists, but it plays like a comedy until the final act. It practically invents the slobs vs. snobs comedy, with Robert Ryan as the stuffy dean (colonel).
