Van Halen's first album was the John Carpenter's "Halloween" of hard rock. The spawn of imitators has, in many ways, devalued Van Halen's first album and Van Halen's discography in general. But like "Halloween," it really can't be emphasized enough how ground-breaking this album was.
"A" for Awful, amirite??? God, I kill me…
The overacting just makes Gotham a chore to watch. And yet I do and I can't figure out why.
Godfather Part II. Don't get me wrong, I believe it would have been one of the greatest movies of all time without the Fredo ending (spoilers??). The first time I saw the movie, I was in Italy and watching it with an Italian. What happened to Fredo was simply incomprehensible to an Italian, no matter what sins…
I honestly don't understand all of the Ryan Reynolds hate. Yes, Green Lantern and Blade: Trinity were AWFUL movies. But they would have been awful movies with or without Reynolds. I don't know enough about the Deadpool character to posit whether he'll be a great Deadpool but as I understand it, Deadpool is a…
No, you start with the first track off Led Zeppelin I and go from there. Imagine a teenager in 1969 putting the needle down for the first time on this record. Right away, Page hammers you with the two simple E chords. Then Bonham kicks you the face with the Bonham bass triplets and some of the coolest drum fills…
I'm younger than 40 but did grow up watching the great 80's movies. So I got that goin' for me. Which is nice.
I have two - (1) people that like Rob Zombie's "Halloween" more than the original; and (2) those that DON'T consider "Fletch" or "Caddyshack" funny.
I don't know if I would call her his girlfriend. They may be "dating" but it seems more like they are just hooking up. The fact that we don't know exemplifies how little story Winston is given.
Although Lamorne Morris has been awesome in every scene he's been in, the "Season of Winston" has, unfortunately, not materialized. Last night, I wish this had been the conversation between Winston and Nick/Jess:
This show now feels like watching a Sandler movie post "Happy Gilmore." You remember fondly when it was funny, get doses of sappiness that typically aren't earned, and ultimately, you're just left with a bunch of friends sitting around doing nothing.
Very disappointed in this episode, especially after the return to form last week. The jokes were pretty strong and hit their marks; the emotional stuff not so much. It appears we are being told how to feel, as each character not only reveals their inner motivations but also "how they've grown." When we are shown…
I completely agree. I would go farther, however, and call this one of the worst episodes HIMYM has ever done. There was zero movement forward in the storyline; the premise would MAYBE have worked as a character aside, but failed as a full episode; and there was no character investment or creativity in the "concept"…
Back there I could fly a gunship, I could drive a tank, I was in charge of million dollar equipment. Back here, I can't even hold a job parking cars!
Actually, it goes something like this:
For the first time ever, I'm posting about this show. I normally like, really like, or love HIMYM. I hated this episode more than even the worst Zoey episodes. My wife absolutely loves this show. She even asked if we could turn it off half way through.
The "Comfortably Numb" bridge solo is astonishing in how beautiful and simple it is. It is a master class in economy and feeling. Can I play all the notes? Yes. Any competent guitarist can. Does it ever sound anything like Gilmour's masterpiece? As Bender would say: "Not even close, bud."
I believe certain solos are givens - "Comfortably Numb" bridge solo; "Another Brick in the Wall Part II"; "Eruption"; "Mr. Crowley"; "Sultans of Swing"; "Red House" etc.
What is even more amazing is EVH did that in two takes. He told Quincy Jones (the producer) and MJ to pick the one they liked best.
