As to why the "soundtrack" CD contains the sound in question followed by 4 seconds of silence — the Red Book (Audio CD) standard requires all tracks to have a minimum length of 5 seconds. If it wasn't like that, it wouldn't work in a regular CD player — then again, who wants to fall asleep to Mario noises…
