Okay, so in one instance, the violent, pock-marked histories of colonialism and slavery, and the lives of the many, many African-Americans it directly effects are trivialized and pejoratively deployed in the show's depiction of blackface, and in the other instance, there is no victim because the punchline is fictional

Again, it is not the actions of the characters that anyone is objecting to. The actions in question are those of the showrunners, writers, producers, actors, and those making the decision to so constantly depict blackface and brownface on television. Again, the depravity of the Gang is completely irrelevant, but

I'm only going to respond to you because I don't like it when people assert that I hate the mentally ill, being "mentally ill" and bipolar myself, thank you. In any case, no single axis exists in terms of "offensiveness." Meanings and contexts construct locations of perceived offense, and in this case there is an

Hateful and offensive. Long-time fan, but I'm sorry, I don't think I'm watching this show again. Whatever pretense of parodic taste, or "oops factor" that might have been is completely gone, as this is the second episode prominently featuring the violently racist trope of black minstreldom.

I didn't really find much wrong with the episode at all, and I don't see much actual criticism in this review. Is it because it's too early to really tell, or…? I don't understand the score.

You know, I think this is my favourite episode so far. The whole thing just slips together so sweetly, and it doesn't overstay its welcome for a moment. The Phil scene and the Alex scene at the end really kicked it out of the park. A+ from me.

I disagree entirely as well. I thought the season was spotty but this finale worked for me.

It was a Kate Bush joke last week, not a Kate Nash joke!!

just because i feel like there isn't enough awareness about this: "gypped" IS a racial slur that exploits deeply negative stereotypes regarding the already oppressed Romani population. in the west, Romani people are being constantly deported back to countries like Bulgaria that often keep them confined to ghettos due

Uhhhhh, why the low score then?
