This movie isn't marketed to Christians in general but a specific type of Christian who wants to have their ego stroked in an uncomplicated way.

I noticed Keri Russell's sidelining as well. Which is not ideal in my world because when she's been immersed in heavy stories she's come through gangbusters. Just remember the Gregory thread from season 1 and her relentless sparing with Claudia (who is sorely missed).
