Yes and it's pretty great! It nails all of the classic Avengers lineup and the characters are mostly pitch perfect. There are a few nods to the movies (Bruce Banner is clearly the Edward Norton version and Nick Fury is black) but it's chock full of references to classic Marvel stories. Really well done.

@Epic Testes—You're right on: amateurish, sloppy and cheap. Not fun at all. Just tedious.

@Only Fish—He's screened nearly every one of his movies at the festival and at the screening I attended he was actually referred to as "festival favorite" Gregg Araki, so yeah. And I don't have any personal animus toward the man, but you're exactly right about the fact that he didn't do a very good job with the

Sounds like a nice interview…Too bad the movie is terrible
Kaboom is the worst movie I've ever seen at Sundance. Everything he describes in the interview is in the movie, but it all comes across as slapdash, haphazard incompetence. It's not funny. It's not entertaining. And I don't think it really has anything

Yeah, he did direct that short. It's on a collection of Harry Shearer's stuff that's available on DVD (or was at one time.) There's some great stuff on there in addition to synchronized swimming.

These updates should all be compiled
I'd love to have all of these Newswire items preserved under their own heading eventually so I can just go through and read the whole sordid affair.

Tasha, I hope you know that there are several pleas scattered around this site that you do a Book vs Film feature on Never Let Me Go. Maybe when it hits DVD?

"Borne of John Milius' ballsack"
Man, that phrase needs to work its way into more conversations. Maybe a future inventory? "15 films borne of John Milius' ballsack"

You got a problem with that Gorthon?

Book vs Film candidate?
Tasha, I'm excited to see that you were the one who reviewed this book back when it came out. I just finished it yesterday in anticipation of the film and now I'm hoping against hope that you'll run a Book vs. Film column about it. Any chance?

I think it's safe to say…
…that whatever they end up using in the actual show will not be as cool as that.

Speaking of bad owl-related tie-ins to the movie: I saw this last weekend and and enjoyed it for the most part. Then we get to a musical training montage where the symphonic music gets swapped out for a shitty, shitty pop song. I'm listening to this pablum, which jarred me right out of the movie, going "Who is this

I think there's a pretty good consensus that JACK is Coppola's worst. For Spielberg, let's make it official: Is it 1941 or HOOK? De Palma's trickier because a lot of his stuff is derided by the masses but defended ardently by his admirers (What I'm saying is that RAISING CAIN is awesome.)

I'm just happy to see BLOW OUT listed as De Palma's best. Love that movie. Looks like the only one of their movie brat compadres missing here is the beardless Martin Scorsese. Has Scorsese ever had a low as abysmal as 1941 or (shudder) JACK?

Check out the Primer
R.I.P Mr. Quaife. It's a sad fact that it often takes someone's death to reignite interest in their work, but having said that, I hope this news item gets at least a few more readers to check out the awesome Kinks Primer that's linked above. Seriously one of my favorite pieces on the site.

I had never heard of it until I went to Netflix a few minutes ago to add the film. I almost clicked on the Sheen one by mistake. I actually read the synopsis three times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating: It's based on Charlie Sheen's poetry?

Put BETTER OFF TED on Wednesdays!
ABC is really starting to build a good comedy block on Wednesdays. How could they not see fit to give TED a slot on that night? It just seems so wasteful.

Nicely done Mr. Adams.

RPM, did you read the article?

Mark Waid writes a pretty solid INCREDIBLES ongoing comic book series right now. It's published by BOOM! Studios and, while not exactly Pixar, it does a pretty good job of expanding the universe of the characters. My five-year-old daughter goes nuts waiting for the new issues to come out.
