There are problems with Michael Aubrecht's scholarship on the subject of the 1862 Christmas game. Also, remember, the game was played by two teams of New Yorkers from the Union Army — it didn't get the warring armies to lay down arms or anything. Nonetheless, it's a fascinating piece of history.
