God, this movie is dumb as a box of rocks.  I really wanted to like it too; I loved the book, and was going in hoping for great things.  I know my opinion is colored because I read the book first, but I really think the key issue with the film is how the filmmakers shred a beautiful, intricate story to a pulp.  To wit:

Calling it right now:
Prometheus will be shitty
But Prometheus: The Director's Cut on DVD will be amazing.

I love this scene, and this movie, and rather than destroy my suspension of disbelief, the second scene with Gerwig and her friend cemented it.  This is an incredibly perceptive film about a toxic relationship, and how two damaged people can fuel each other's worst impulses.  You say it defies logic that anyone would

Man, I really am a huge John Hodgman fan, I enjoy his books, his TV and movie appearances, his podcast…but I don't get the extreme sports hatred.  Does he really think sports culture is causing America's problems?
"…this idea of privileging the group over the one; of tradition, of authoritative direction from a

Suggestion for a future month…FUEL TV, the Fox-owned action sports / mens programming channel.  Fox has been pushing it hard recently…I think Jay Mohr hosts a show on it.

"The Water Cooler"
"Change The Channel"
"I Watched This On Purpose, For One Episode"
"Peer Pressure"
"TV Phenomenons"

Again, whether it's a good or bad trend, it seems like radio is getting less regional, thanks to conglomerates like Clear Channel buying up more and more slots with their syndicated shows. I do agree it's probably difficult to cover, because of the sheer amount of content. A daily talk show is 20 hours or more of

I know you're joking, ieshido, but the box office success of Black Swan supports the fact it's just a damned entertaining movie. I don't give two shits about ballet, but it's funny, moving, and shocking, and not remotely subtle, and the average moviegoer can get behind that. Great as Winter's Bone is, it has it's

Oof
That Audible endorsement…I understand why the ads are here, I won't argue that you should get rid of them, but do you have to pitch the product dripping with insincerity? When Keith asks Scott what Audible books he's "experienced" lately, it sounds baldly like forced marketing-speak, and Scott's answer seems like

Also, apropos of nothing
I went to college with Jesse Thorn. He's a nice guy. I still don't understand the appeal of TSOYA.

Radio
I'm a bit biased here, because I work in radio, but it seems like radio is a giant blind spot for pop-culture sites in general and the AV Club in particular.
The listenership for radio is orders of magnitude bigger than any of the podcasts mentioned. And thanks to the growth of syndicated and satellite radio,

The real Malcolm Tucker would be a lot more forceful with his suggestions.

Just got to the first ad…I guess that's a necessary evil. But hey, that ad would pop even more if you cut out all the other distracting video shit. I bet advertisers would like that.
Just sayin.

Frenetic
This is way too frenetic. Between all the sound effects, constant cutting between the table and close-ups and source clips and still pics and Google searches (?) it's kind of hard to watch. I think you're trying too hard to make it feel different from the audio talks…I'd way rather just watch the talking

Or, when you get sick of those clowns, theres Jason Ellis on Faction 28, dude's the shit…
But mostly I like XMU and BackSpin.

"We've Been Had" and "I'm Never Bored" from debut are completely killer. But all of "A Hundred Miles Off" is really overlooked. I personally love "This Job is Killing Me"

Franzen
"The Corrections" is about a five person family.

Shitty
I like the found footage, but hate the edits, and HATE the hosts. It's like if MST3K trimmed the movie to a few minutes of "good parts" but let the bumper skits run for hours.
