You can say the same thing about Hemingway and Steinbeck in literature. Doesn't mean Franzen should be put above them because he has stronger female characters

My two biggest problems with Dexter:

My two biggest problems with Dexter:

They are poor, white trash. They lack education. They do not have money to buy food with proper nutrition. It's economic in the way that it is a "class problem." It is not a cultural problem in the sense that low-brow American culture did not create them. It is cultural in the way that obesity is enabled in this

I actually think shows like Honey Boo-Boo indicate the bar is not that low. High ratings for shows like that actually indicate that people are fascinated by those people, not that they mimic them. Our contemporary culture did not create people like Honey Boo-Boo, there are always people like that. Now they're just

—-2003-2004 Lakers. Kobe in wake of rape scandal, Shaq's last season in LA, Phil's last season (at least for a few years), Malone and Payton coming in (and Kobe feuding with Malone), dysfunctional locker room, put it together for run to finals (including Derek Fisher .4 shot), only to go down in flames to massive

It's funny that you bring up Ledger's joker. How can Gyp's character be considered a stock mafia goon character, but Ledger's Joker layered and complex. It was certainly a good performance, but the character was written as pretty one-note. Don't understand the praise it gets.

Good review, but I think you ommitted how the last scene tied the whole season together. Louie's central theme is connection, which is fitting as a stand-up comedian's job is to connect with the audience. This show explores Louie's attempts to connect with his children, ex-wife, family, women, strangers, and himself.

I completely agree with you. My argument was not fitting into a genre makes youa great filmmaker. I was stating that making work that cannot be fit into a genre is NOT what makes a filmmaker great. Clearly, great movies that fit into genres express ideas and themes that extend beyond the confines of the genre.

A filmmaker is truly great when he makes a great film. Evading classification has nothing to do with it. The Godfather is a mob movie and is widely considered the best movie of all time. Cool Hand Luke is a prison drama. Unforgiven is a Western. Annie Hall is a romantic comedy, as is The Graduate.

What element of Louie exactly spells template for the future of comedy? I really enjoy the show. It's very well acted, the score is great, the cinematography is great, overall it's very well put together. But in terms of an actual narrative - it's nothing special. Each week is a little vignette of Louie going through
