Have to agree with you. I think young readers cling to him because it's such a diversion from books you're compelled to read in high-school and college lit classes. It's like, "Holy shit, a novel where the narrator doesn't really give a shit and they talk about pop-culture shit I know about and drugs and stuff!!"
