No, proper werewolves are people who turn into actual wolves. Wolf man type werewolves were invented solely as a concession to makeup departments. (I realize I probably feel more strongly about this than is warranted.)

I think Bombadil himself is a little overly twee, but I otherwise love the  sections with him in them.Trees that eat people! Ghosts in old burial mounds! I also like that he and Goldberry are basically pagan nature spirits — I always read him as a green man figure and her as a water nymph.

I loved the movie and tried to read the book, but found the book dull and not very much like the movie at all. I eventually gave up.

I don't know if you'd think it was good, but the British Being Human makes a fairly big deal out of the werewolf's Jewishness. 

His tragic character was my favorite part of True Blood Season 1.  Also, the first vampire movie ever made, Nosferatu, was pretty darn unsexy.
