I thought the finale was overly conventional, but it still worked for me. It definitely wasn't the bravest way to go out. However, I liked season one quite a bit. It had the potential of being a great season if it had not been cut off by the strike. I'd rank the BB seasons as:
Pfft to these losers voting down anybody who has something positive to say about Enlightened.
Justified did have a great, undervalued season.
Yeah, 'Top' had a lot of potential. But after reaching its peak in episodes 4/5 it just got silly and muddled. It's definitely an interesting watch however.
That's not at all what the show is about, especially season two. Did you just watch the first four episodes of season one? The "hippy enlightenment" is just a set-up for the second half of season one and all of season two.
My top shows of the year:
Every damn body on the planet has to be in agreement that Breaking Bad was the best show of the year, otherwise they're just being contradictory? They couldn't possibly just have preferred something else? Time Magazine and The New Yorker had Enlightened as their number one show of the year as well. So, it's not like…
There are no fan wars. I am a fan of Breaking Bad myself. I'm just sick of the "Breaking Bad is the greatest thing ever. How dare you love Breaking Bad, but like something else a bit more" attitude. That's precisely how your first post came off. I know a lot of fan don't real when they're being dismissive and…
I already admitted to being overly flippant and taking out my frustration with BB fans out on you. What else do you want? I did think claiming "Ozymandias" was the best episode of TV ever was extreme. But it's fine if you feel that way. However, claiming a list isn't valid merely because your favorite is number two…
"Ozymandias" is a great episode of TV, but instead of elevating the season it further showed how unnecessary elongating season five was and how lacking the season would be without it.
Yeah, those critics are kooked too. Of course, I'm being an overly flippant jackass, but I am over the Holy Grail treatment of Breaking Bad and hardcore fans taking offense when someone says otherwise. Yes, it's a great (if deeply flawed) show, but TV is not Breaking Bad and everything else.
Best episode of TV ever? Damn, BB fanatics can be kooked.
The Sopranos. Nothing has touched it yet. Then there's The Wire and Homicide. Breaking Bad's a great show, arguably the best TV thriller ever. But best drama? Not quite in the top five.
Congrats Enlightened. It was by far the most soulful and inventive show of the year. Yes, Enlightened is a small, character driven show that's not thrilling in the traditional sense, but that has nothing to do with whether it's worthy of being deemed the best show of the year. If anything it proved that intimate,…
This is a… cute episode. I don't know how to explain it beyond that. Season one has no dismiss-worthy episodes, but this is the one I enjoy re-watching the least. It's at least worthy of mention because it gets the ball rolling with Peggy's arc and for Joan's epicness during lipstick test.
It not being grand and lacking arcs was imo never the truly big problem with Treme. I was very gun-ho about this being a collection of short stories and character portraits. But the unrelenting emphasis on the importance of music and the constant audience shaming always held it back. Also, if you're going to forgo the…
Justified's in my top five as well. Season four was a wonderful recovery from what I thought was an iffy third season. POI, Enlightened, Breaking Bad, Justified and The Good Wife are the shows of the year in whatever order you wish.
