I've enjoyed the city far more going back to see friends and family than the experience of growing up there. On visits I'm routinely amazed at the open expanses of freeway and roadways. I know SA.ians don't experience them that way; they complain about the traffic! as we all do everywhere. I'm sure there are spots,

Holy frijole, San Antonio? The biggest small town in America; the most inconspicuous big city in the US. If the Spurs left the city, the words "San Antonio" would be lucky to get a slot on CNN's weather crawl/segment let alone appear on tv in any other capacity. Good to see SA getting some space in the pop cultural

Never listened to this person but as a fan of Chan Marshall's sad stuff I think I'll give this a try.

The article was about up-and-coming writers but the partying angle sneaked in.

Alphaville, such a watchable movie. Noir sci-fi, what's not to like. But most memorable to me re the computer was the sound of the voice, like a French bullfrog that had smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years, croaking "What are you doing in Alphaville?"

Isn't it? It's got to be one of the most idiosyncratic of the lot. I knew it, remembered the film, right when I heard it.

Meatball surgery.

He grew to hate it, and later in life said it embarrassed him.

Martin Short, Chris Elliott, and Mst3k. These go a long way. I'll be more patient with a person who appreciates these. And Raymond Chandler.

Keeping up with the Franco. Kardashian.

When will these roles finally and properly be preserved for pop singers and protected from the predations of actors?

The referee?

"That's really interesting. Can we talk more about it in my van?"

Good to see another piece open by attributing a 'subversion.' Each entry should come with a subversion indicator icon.

Members Only.

Not sure if strictly they meet the letter of the category but Dr Strangelove and Fail-Safe had real-time dimensions. But then there's real-time and then there's against the clock, with most entertainments falling into the latter category, I suppose.

The Brick was my first thought. Formerly known as The Bearded Nail, if memory serves.

"Fate's cruel hand deals…" well, I don't now, really. I mean, in the noir tradition of "if this dame hadn't walked in" or "of all of the gin joints in all the world," then yes. She drops the lipstick, they match eyes, the hook is set. But in this version there are tons of choices made, minds changed, lots of scheming

Through the Vatican?

You had me at "doo-doo."
