Would you ask Erma Bombeck that question?
Agreed, it's unnecessary form at the cost of function. There is a beauty to it but it comes at the cost of efficient, intuitive browsing. The eye needs to be able to take in a lot of information quickly. Arriving on the dissolves does not yield an abundance of information; you must first scroll and navigate. I didn't…
Roseanne. Let's not forget, let's not forget, that it had two large people making up the lead couple, which seemed important to how we made sense of the family. But what is this list about anyway?
I too saw FMrF this weekend; it was the first time, for me. And despite
some touching moments, which I cannot now recall, the movie receded
quickly, having left only a slight sense of a missed connection.
That chain that connects the belt loop to the wallet adds a pound.
I don't think it's an outdated pronunciation. Looking at "pronunciation" first: It's a different word, not a matter of changing the sound during the speech act. And "outdated": is the word more outdated than the phrase?
Is it stinky?
I was going to post, if you want to class this joint up a bit you'd go with the original, "champing at the bit."
Interesting. I walked into TTRL without knowing anything about the movie or Malick. It was one of those rare spontaneous moments; I just walked in and watched it.
Oh, the Goodfellas thing doesn't make me angry, really. The Crash win makes me angry.
I agree that TGSE is a boring uninteresting movie. Just thinking of Jimmy Stewart in the clown makeup makes me cringe. Ew, the whole thing's terrible.
I find From Here to very watchable, and the Lancaster / Kerr beach scene is one of the most iconic moments in Hollywood history and deservedly so.
Yes.
Some good movies in Endearment's year and it wouldn't bother me today if another one had won. But I think Endearment packed a big emotional punch at the time and left something of an impact on audiences that year. It had a lot going for it; the acting, it was a McMurtry story… I remember it fondly.
Agreed. And not to get into a one's better than the other, but Shakespeare in Love beating The Thin Red Line exasperates me.
Goodfellas losing to Dances with Wolves, in the early '90s, is galling. But it differs from the case below in that I don't care all that much that Dances won. It's just that Goodfellas is far and away the better movie and is brilliant in its own right.
Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe
Barnes and Barnes - Fish heads
Peggy Lee - Is that All there Is
