I second everything you're saying about Stoker, which I watched last Monday and loved. I especially encourage people to go in blind, as you say; I intentionally stayed away from ANY sort of description of the plot (even averting my eyes when ads would play on the subway), and I think it really aided the experience.

I know, it's crazy how swept under the rug this movie seems to be. I also remember seeing trailers for it and thinking it looked great, and then nothing. I would have forgotten all about it had I not seen someone I follow on Letterboxd rave about it.

I'm on Letterboxd! (Same username as on here.)

So THAT'S what the Nerdist "Pop My Culture" podcast is about? Ejaculations?

If I add "…written and directed by the singer from Kula Shaker" to the end of that, you might see why the end result is not everyone's cup of tea. It has a 5.5 on iMDB, seemingly from everyone either rating it 1 or 10.

I watched quite a lot of films this weekend: the girlfriend was out of town, and with me being a lazy ass with a fridge full of fine sake from my recent trip to Japan, a lot of time was spent splayed out on the couch.

No problem. I'm not too fond of Nesbø, myself; his tone is wildly inconsistent, going from po-faced seriousness to self-aware noir pastiche in the span of one paragraph. But I do like his screenplays and the adaptations of his work (Jackpot, Headhunters).

Yeah, the Swedes have pretty much cornered the market on crime thrillers in terms of exporting them abroad, but Scorsese is currently adapting Norwegian Jo Nesbø's The Snowman.

It was glorious. But boy did it lead to a lot of catchphrase-spouting in the year to follow.

Link, please? That sounds goddamn horrible!

Your band is great, @avclub-884c4beddd8c98bb3b016bdfcc1bcdf8:disqus! I just downloaded your "We Are In A Car" EP off of Bandcamp. Consider me a fan.

I like that you feel it would be more mental to give a recap of the episode to another person, as opposed to telling it to yourself.

Goddamn right on the Blue Hawaii album. O'Neal is correct in pointing out that it's easy to overlook: there's a LOT of bands out there right now who (on first listen) sound just like them. But a few songs into it I sat up and actually started to listen; it's really fucking great, I've practically had it on repeat all

Hah, yeah: you really wouldn't think so, would you? But as the rest of the world has started to notice, the northern countries (Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) are obsessed with crime thrillers. Don't forget that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is Swedish, for example - we are sparsely populated, practically

OH MY GOD…IT'S FULL OF SNARK!

*sings* Big yellow NO, big yellow NO…I'll meet you down at the big yellow NO…

I think a big part of the problem is that they're playing "characters" a lot more; exaggerated versions of themselves. Griffin especially.

Aw urgh. Once again proving that you really can't be so-bad-it's-good on purpose. For further evidence, see The House That Drips Blood On Alex with Tommy Wiseau: https://vimeo.com/16679115

Ah, oh yeah. Of course. I've seen Troll 2 many times, but my fear of Disqus changing to that awful new format (as the prophecy foretold) trumped my memory.

I'm so thankful for this place introducing me to Stop Podcasting Yourself. It's like Jordan, Jesse Go!, but they actually talk to their guests instead of giggling at their own goofs or try to impress the listener with faux-ironic trivia.
