I'm still not buying his death convo to Kevan there for some reason. It just seemed a little too mustache-twirly. And it does not explain his mysterious migration over to King Aerys court, and his poisoning of the kings ear (as mentioned by both Jaime and Barristan). He's playing a long game (longer than the his alley

Still better than Widow's Wail. Joff sucks at EVERYTHING.

I'd say Jaime is probably better, though Bronn has become a sort of Mary Sue of killing. He was always intended to be damn good, but it's sort of become a joke how this unknown sellsword, without any formal training, is the best badass in Westeros. Not buying it. I'd say Jaime and the Hound are the two best warriors

I always believed that Varys "cut" story was the only honest thing he's ever said in the series. He HATES magic, and that's whats really motivating him, not "peace" or "a good king" or any of that shit. We haven't seen the real plan yet, and this chilling intro to the story further confirms that to me.

I like to think that GRRM was more than happy to re-write Stannis as a complete badass here. Maybe hints for Book 6 Battle of the Ice?

No way. Nothing in the later narrative indicates that. All the info he got was directed through Harmony.

Understand completely. Have the same problem with many of my friends, they can't get past the "monsters and demons that look like humans in masks and makeup" thing, missing their point as a narrative device completely. It's great to have a place for other fans that get it.

A note on Lindsey's tragic arc too: Been watching Season 2 recently (yay Hulu+ free week) and it's interesting how Lindsey never fully commits to being evil, his goal is that he just wants to be IMPORTANT to anyone (Angel, the Senior Partners) in the bigger scheme of things, but he never is. He's a gadfly like someone

I like this view a lot. It is now canon in my head (just like everyone died at the end, but they did kill the dragon).
