Good review, Keith
Great performances by Nicholson and Rourke, though the latter is only in the movie for a few minutes. The directing, cinematography, and score are all excellent. As Keith wrote, the performance by Nicholson is one of his best, one of the rare times in recent years that he has done more than just

I *give it a B+.

A D+
is a little excessive. I it a B+. Sure, it sprawls a bit and isn't as tight as it could be, as Zaillian probably tried to pack too much of the book into the movie, but there are enough positives to make up for that. The demagoguery Noel refers to really is the best part of the movie. I understand why a lot of

Val Kilmer and Angelina Jolie
predictably steal every scene in which either of them appear. She's great in the attempted-rape scene, as is he in the cave scene. The movie itself isn't so great, but there are a few really nice scenes.

I will begin
by saying this is a very good movie. Bardem is great, and the last scene of the movie is perfect. I certainly wouldn't describe it as a police procedural.
