I seriously doubt they're too worried about the "current popular image of Batman".  If they could make a dime off of it easily, they would.  Hell, they released those God-awful live-action Superfriends shows from the '70s on DVD.

If I recall, The Riddler had appeared maybe twice in the comics before the show came out.  It was the Gorshin's performance that made him into an a-list Batman villain.
