True Stories kinda sucked.  It was like he was trying to do his own version of "Vernon, Florida" which had the benefit of containing ACTUAL true stories.   Jim White's "Searching For Wrong Eyed Jesus" also mined similar territory years later, and did it much better.

I preferred some of the Choose Your Own Adventure knock-off books, like Time Machine and Be An Interplanetary Spy.  There were even some set in the D&D and Lord of The Rings franchises that were an interesting cross between a Choose Your Own Adventure and an RPG.
