Just took a look at the first released in 2016 list I could find, and even with it being mainstream-focused (neither Raw not The Handmaiden were on it), I got reminded of how strong the slate was. But yeah, some of those would-be blockbusters did not do well.

2016 was a really good year for movies, and it still stood out as one of the best of the year to me.
