I like those jokes he does where he implies that all gays are sick and all Muslims are terrorists. Those jokes are funny because his audience is smart and understands that he's joking and in no way do they fully endorse those views. I like comedy.

If I remember right, the novel is really light on narrative. Some shit happens and then it's done. So I have no problem with any liberties they've taken with the film. In my opinion, it's his weakest work and was probably only re-printed to rake in some money from Fear & Loathing (film) fans.
