Yes, I thought that squeal was a really strange choice because while Sun's fighting was new to the actor, it wasn't new to the character and felt awkward. But I thought the actor fit much better in these new episodes than in the Christmas special.

So the adults only saw her from afar, and thought she was a boy. The restauranteur realized she was a girl when he got close to her - told "social services" that he hadn't told her yet, she's here in the kitchen, etc. From close up, and I think it's supposed to be obvious she's a girl.

I thought maybe she knew that the father had killed the fiance, vs. the son.
